Reading Rockets Summer Reading Program is a local campaign that introduces literacy development, reading comprehension and learning disability progression. It’s a nurturing summer reading camp program for young children from kindergarten to eighth grade. Child care providers are trained to develop appropriate language and literacy skills. The caregivers then use a wide variety of books to read to children during the day and encourage parents to build skills at home. The instructors are current and retired Dallas ISD certified teachers that are members of The East Gate MBC church family. They volunteer their time on Saturdays during the months of July and August.
While the campaign focuses its efforts on reading comprehension, it also engages libraries, organizations, businesses, and the community to help all children become competent readers, and future leaders of today.
With a desire to do more, we had a vision to do something that is grounded in giving and something that would exude kindness while making others feel good. So we decided to partner with local Dallas shelters, with donations from our church, community, and local donations. Our passion was ignited by personal experiences, needs in our community, and because it’s simply the right thing to do. We are proud to partner with partners that serve the heart of humanity in need immediately, and without question.
By teaching those around us the importance of community and taking action today, we hope to inspire others to make tomorrow even better. Thank you for making our giving possible. We couldn’t do it without you.
